At Towonga, every ewe is fitted with an Electronic Identification (EID) ear tag, allowing us to accurately track individual performance throughout their lifecycle. Fleece testing as a hogget and visual classing are combined and recorded to determine whether a ewe joins the Stud or Commercial flock.
All lambs born to Stud ewes are mothered up before weaning, enabling pedigree lines to be recorded and tracked in our breeding software, ensuring we can identify and retain top-performing genetics.
Scanning wet and dry ewes provides valuable information that is recorded and considered when assessing reproductive performance. Additional scanning of rams for eye muscle and fat aids in sire selection and sale preparation, and is once again recorded via the EID tag.
By integrating EIDs and the data we collect into our breeding software, we make informed decisions that support consistent breeding objectives.
